On January 3, 1936, ten employees of the V.A. Medical Center in Asheville had a desire to help fellow employees earn more interest for their money and make small low-interest loans so they started Oteen V. A. Federal Credit Union. We have always been located on the campus of the Medical Center.
The first office was a room inside the main hospital. In 1974 they were outgrowing their room and began asking for more space within the hospital. In 1976 they began looking at the possibility that the old fire station building would become available for their credit union.
They began remodeling it in May 1977 and moved into the remodeled facility December 1977. In 1994 we again had run out of sufficient space and began taking bids to add on to the existing credit union building. We moved into our present location on March 17, 1995.
