Oteen VA Federal Credit Union was established on January 3, 1936, by ten employees of the VA Medical Center in Asheville. Their goal was to help fellow workers earn more on their savings and gain access to small, low-interest loans. From the very beginning, we have proudly remained on the VA campus, serving those who serve others.
Our first office was a small room inside the main hospital. As our membership grew, so did our need for more space. In 1977, we moved into a remodeled former fire station, where we continued to expand and evolve alongside our members. By 1995, the increasing membership and demand for services required an expansion of our current location in Building 24 on the VA campus.
For nearly nine decades, we have stayed true to our founding purpose—offering trusted financial solutions, personalized service, and a steadfast commitment to the financial well-being of every member we serve.
